FOUNDERS STORY

I came from a single mom of 4, and I am biracial with many different races. But I favor my black side more than anything. Growing up, my mother didn't know what to do with my hair, she had loose wavy hair and had no idea how to comb mine. Always told her I wanted to cut it because it always seemed unmanageable. Then at 15 I found out my hair seemed unmanageable because it was damaged from a chemical treatment my mother put in my hair when I was say 5 or 6 years old. My hair was so damaged it seemed like my hair was a more coarse type. But take someone with healthy coarse hair, theirs would've both looked and felt much better than mine because mine was damaged. So at 15 years old my mother finally decided to let me cut it. Once I did I told myself I would not only grow my hair back, but grow it out in the healthiest way possible. I used a lot of different techniques & products that were around in 2014,2015.

Finding the Products

By the time I graduated high school, a lot of the products I loved were either discontinuing or had their formulas changed. So I decided to create my own products. Took a long time, but I refused to give up. Then in about 4 years I have created the conditioner of my dreams. Hydrating, makes detangling easy, and has nutrients that help speed the hair growth process. Unisex for everyone with any type of curly, kinky, coily, coarse, type hair. You name it. The name for this brand is Black Therapy because it provides a nourishing therapy treatment for predominant black hair. Quenching and moisturizing the natural dryness of our hair and making tangles much easier to comb out. Also helping to support healthy hair growth. This is my story, Lauryn Thee Empress's story.

MY Hair JOURNEY

August 2014 I decided to cut my hair shorter removing all of the damaged ends and beginning the process of growing my hair long and much healthier than before.

However by this time many of my favorite hair brands were either being discontinued or changed their formulas trumendously. So I began to find new hair products.

In 2017 my hair was finally past the in between stage.

By fall 2019 I noticed my hair wasn't even growing as much as it did in the beginning. That's when I officially started the process of creating MY OWN hair products starting with the most popular product for ethnic hair: conditioner

It took loads of trial and error. From ingedients, tools, time, and money. After a few years went by I STILL had not found the conditioner formula that worked 100%.

In 2019, regular DIYs started to not be enough, and store brand products weren't treating my hair as well as they use to. Whether they were professional products or drugstore products more than half of the brands out there weren't doing much for me at all.

This is freshly washed and deep conditioned hair. Since this day I stayed consistent doing plenty of scalp massages, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning, and protecting my hair at night.

By this time in my journey I was at the in between stage in April 2016.

But in 2018 when this photo was taken. Finding products that worked for me became harder and harder. So I started doing DIYs at home.

But I REFUSED to give up. Then as I stayed consistent and learned to gain tons of patience; In March 2025 I FINALLY FOUND the conditioner that works wonderfully for me and all other curly and kinky hair textures, and I'm going to share that with the world.
